NY Man Arrested After Trying to Sneak onto Flight at Salisbury Airport

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md.- Authorities say a Brooklyn, N.Y. man was arrested Sunday night after he made his way onto the tarmac and attempted to board a commercial flight at the Salisbury-Ocean City: Wicomico Regional Airport.

According to the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, a deputy responded to the scene after the man, later identified as Darnel Richards, 30, created a disturbance at the airport while attempting to locate transportation back to New York. However, the Sheriff's Office said, Richards did not have any money on him.

Officials said Richards left the airport upon request and was told not to return. Shortly after leaving, however, the Sheriff's Office told WBOC Richards returned to the airport, made his way through the passenger gate and onto the tarmac, and attempted to approach a commercial flight that was in the process of unloading passengers.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Richards became uncooperative with deputies and was placed under arrest for trespassing and disorderly conduct, at which point he became physically combative. He was ordered held on $5,000 bond.
