Md. Man Sentenced for 1 Murder Confesses to 2nd

Posted: Updated:

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - Police say a convicted murderer in Cumberland has acknowledged killing a Hagerstown woman three years earlier.

Hagerstown police disclosed Stephen Schleuniger's confession Tuesday after the 44-year-old truck driver was sentenced in Cumberland to 30 years in prison for the second-degree murder of Lisa Simmons.

Police Lt. Jim Hurd says Schleuniger confessed Friday to killing Tammy Myerly in 2010. Schleuniger agreed to speak to police about Myerly as part of his December plea deal in the Simmons case.

Hurd says the deal barred Hagerstown police from charging him with killing Myerly.

Myerly's body was found in a home she had shared with Schleuniger.

Simmons disappeared in September from a home she and Schleuniger shared in Cumberland. He directed police to her body in a Winchester, Va., industrial park in November.
