ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP)- Gov. Martin O'Malley is proposing Maryland raise its minimum wage to $10.10 an hour by 2016.

The governor said at a rally in Annapolis on Tuesday night that the more people earn, the more customers businesses have.

O'Malley also supports indexing the minimum wage to keep up with inflation. The Democratic governor has made the minimum wage hike from $7.25 an hour a priority of his legislative agenda this session, the last of his final term.

Maryland last raised the minimum wage in 2005.
