SPRINGFIELD, Mass.– Lexie Brown of the sixth-ranked Maryland women's basketball team was named to the Lieberman Award Watch List, it was announced Wednesday.
She is one of two freshmen to be named to the 29-player list, which goes to the country's top point guard. Northwestern's Ashley Deary is the other freshman hopeful. Candidates possess floor leadership, play making, and ball handling skills, similar to that of the award's namesake Nancy Lieberman
Brown is currently second in the ACC in her assist/turnover ratio (2.7) and fifth in assists per game (4.6). She has started 11 of 14 games played and is averaging 7.2 points a game.
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame became the new host of the award in October 2013. The Hall of Fame appointed a Selection Committee consisting members of the media, head coaches, sports information directors, and current Hall of Famers to review the candidates. The list will be trimmed to 20 in February, then the final five will be selected in March. The winner of the Lieberman Award will be announced during the final four weekend activities.
