Redskins Name Brian Baker Outside Linebackers Coach

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va.– The Washington Redskins have announced that Brian Baker has been named as outside linebackers coach.

Baker becomes the newest member of the Redskins coaching staff. He brings 30 years of coaching experience to the table; the last 18 have been at the NFL level.

He spent his last season with the Cleveland Browns as their outside linebackers coach. Their defensive unit finished third in the AFC and ninth in the NFL in total defense (332.4 yards per game).

Baker's pedigree includes stints with the Dallas Cowboys (2011-12), Carolina Panthers (2009-10), St. Louis Rams (2006-2008), Minnesota Vikings (2001-2005), Detroit Lions (1997-2000), and his NFL tenure began in 1996 with the San Diego Chargers.

He has coached several Pro Bowl players such as Jay Ratcliff, Julius Peppers, Kevin Williams, and he also had a role in the Pro Bowl selections of DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer.

Baker, 51, played college football at the University of Maryland, where he played linebacker from 1980-83. He then assisted the linebacker corps as a student coach and graduate assistant from 1984-85.

His collegiate coaching experience includes coaching positions at the United States Military Academy at West Point (1986), and Georgia Tech (1987-95).
