JCPenney at Centre at Salisbury to Close

Posted: Updated:
SALISBURY, Md.- Struggling department store operator JCPenney has announced it will close 33 "underperforming" stores across the country, including its location at the Centre at Salisbury mall.

JCPenney, based in Plano, Texas, said the move will save $65 million a year, and that 2,000 employees will lose their jobs.

JCPenney has 116,000 staffers and operates more than 1,100 stores. All of the job cuts are related to the store closings.

The company expects to close the Salisbury store by early May.
