NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A third Navy diver has chosen to accept non-judicial punishment in connection with the training deaths of two sailors in Maryland.

Navy Diver 1st Class James Reyher and Navy Diver 2nd Class Ryan Harris drowned on Feb. 26 while working at the Aberdeen Proving Ground.

Members of their Virginia Beach-based unit have said the men died after being sent to the bottom of the Super Pond underwater weapons-testing facility.

Senior Chief Navy Diver David Jones was among five men the Navy sought to punish for their roles in the accident. Jones originally wanted to have a court-martial instead of accepting the non-judicial punishment.

Jones' court-martial charge of dereliction of duty has since been withdrawn.

Prosecutors rested their case against another diver facing the same charge in a court-martial on Thursday.
