Lady Hawks Set to Battle in D.C.

By Jeremy Whichard

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- Saturday will mark the 66th match-up between the Lady Bison and the Lady Hawks. The Lady Bison have dominated over the years leading the all-time series 53-12. Most recently they swept the Hawks last season (2-0).

Howard comes into this game 6-10 overall (2-1 MEAC). They are led by red shirt-freshman Te-Shya Heslip and sophomore center Victoria Gonzalez. Heslip leads the team in points (14.9), assists (4.8), steals (2.5), and minutes (32.4). Gonzalez is a formidable defense presence, averaging 1.4 BPG and 5.2 RPG.

The Lady Hawks come in 3-11 (0-3 MEAC). They lead the conference in RPG (46.6) and three-pointers-made-per-game (6.3). The Hawks will need a big game from leading scorer Jessica Long, who is coming off a career high, 29 points in a losing effort against Norfolk State. Shawnee Sweeney leads the conference in three-pointers-made and is second on the team in scoring.

The Hawks benefit from a strong frontcourt with Stewart and Udoji who average 9.7 and 8.8 RPG respectively. How they match up with Howard's Gonzalez will be a key storyline in Saturday's match-up.
