WASHINGTON (AP/WBOC)- Travelers in the Mid-Atlantic region are being urged to be cautious as they venture out in frigid temperatures in the wake of a snowstorm.

Officials warn even cleared and treated roads may be icy and motorists should allow for an extended commute on Wednesday morning.

Metrorail service is operating on a regular schedule, but buses are starting the day on snow emergency routes.

The Maryland Transit Administration's MARC lines are operating on an "S'' schedule and commuter buses are operating on a two-hour delay. Virginia Rail Express is operating on a normal schedule. And in Delaware, DART First State is mostly operating on a normal schedule with some exceptions.

Wind restrictions are in place on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge because of winds of 40 to 49 mph.

The region's three major airports are open, but officials say travelers should check with airlines for delays and cancellations.
