RICHMOND, Va. (AP)- The arraignment and bond hearing for Virginia's former governor and his wife is getting pushed back by a week.

Bob McDonnell and Maureen McDonnell had been scheduled to make their first court appearance on 14 federal corruption charges on Friday. The former governor's lawyers filed a motion Wednesday to postpone the appearance until Jan. 31. The motion says one of Bob McDonnell's attorneys is out of the country at a remote location and would have a tough time getting back to Richmond this week.

Department of Justice spokesman Peter Carr confirmed the motion's assertion that the government does not oppose the delay.

The indictment returned Tuesday alleges the McDonnells illegally received thousands of dollars in gifts and loans from a wealthy businessman in exchange for promoting his company's products.
