Delaware Students Earn Nearly 300 Ferguson Scholarships

Updated:

DOVER, Del. - The Delaware Department of Education announced Friday it will award 299 Michael C. Ferguson scholarships of $1,000 each to 284 students who scored high on the 2013 Delaware Comprehensive Assessment System reading and math tests for grades eight and 10.

Six eighth graders earned two scholarships and nine students earned two scholarships; the rest earned one.

The scholarship program is funded by the Delaware General Assembly. It is named in memory of Michael C. Ferguson, former deputy superintendent, and acting superintendent of the Department of Public Instruction and former state budget director. More than 4,800 public school students have been awarded more than $6.4 million in scholarships since the program began 14 years ago.

Students can use their scholarship once they start postsecondary education; payments are made directly to the institution once the department receives notification from the student.

A complete list of this year's Michael C. Ferguson Achievement Award recipients can be found on the Higher Education Office's website.
