DOVER, Del. (AP) - Attorneys for relatives of a man who killed two people at a Delaware courthouse are asking a judge to move their trial on federal conspiracy and stalking charges to another state.
Defense attorneys filed court documents last week arguing that former optometrist David Matusiewicz, his mother, Lenore, and sister Amy Gonzalez, will be unable to get a fair trial in Delaware. They cite the widespread media attention surrounding last February's shootings in asking that the trial, scheduled for October, be held outside Delaware.
The defendants are charged with conspiracy and stalking of David's ex-wife, Christine Belford, who was killed along with a friend by her former father-in-law, Thomas Matusiewicz, who then killed himself.
Thomas Matusiewicz's family members have said they had no knowledge of his plans to kill Belford.
