SALISBURY, Md.- A Salisbury man is behind bars on attempted murder and related charges following accusations that he attempted to burn down his house with his wife inside.

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office said that Sunday's arrest of 63-year-old Stuart K. Joudrey stemmed from an investigation into a domestic incident that occurred at his home on the 29000 block of Santa Fe Drive in Salisbury.

According to police, the investigating deputy learned that Joudrey had gotten into an argument with his wife on Saturday, which escalated when Joudrey reportedly used an oscillating fan to assault his wife in the leg.

Police said Joudrey's wife said that another argument broke out on Sunday, when Joudrey began making statements that he would burn their house down with her inside. Police said the investigating deputy observed that Joudrey had in fact attempted to start a fire in the home by lighting bedding on fire.

Police said that based on the threats by Joudrey and the act of lighting bedding on fire, it appeared that Joudrey actually intended to burn the house down with his wife inside. As a result of the investigation, Joudrey was arrested and charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, first-degree arson and threats of arson. He was ordered held in the Wicomico County Detention Center in lieu of $250,000 bond.
