PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- UMES indoor track athlete Dillon Simon and bowling junior Mariana Alvarado have been named the UMES Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week.
This is the fourth time Simon has been chosen for this award and the first for Alvarado. Junior Dillon Simon set two records at the Navy Invitational this past weekend. However, Simon did break a field house record (18.31 meters) in the shot put, he threw for a distance of 18.64 meters. To compliment his record setting day, Simon finished first in both events.
Alvarado played a big role in the bowling team's victory at the Kutztown Invite in Reading, Pennsylvania. Mariana averaged 211.7 pins per game and a game high of 247 in six individual games. She is the team's anchor and bowls in the fifth and tenth frames, she rolled three straight strikes in the championship game and squeaked out a victory by one pin. She averages 204 pins per game in individual competition.
