NANTICOKE, Md. - Three people were sent to the hospital after an early-morning fire.

Firefighters responded to the call just after 5 a.m. On Wednesday morning on the 2000 block of Turner Lane.  Investigators said the fire started in the home's oil furnace and caused about $40,000 in damages.

Three people inside the home were treated for smoke inhalation at PRMC. Fire officials say the family's dog was killed in the fire.

The one-alarm fire took more than 30 firefighters two hours to get under control.
