Maryland Derives Optimism From Win Over Miami

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - In a season draped in disappointment, Maryland found hope in a thrilling victory that probably should never have been so close.

Although the Terrapins blew a 10-point lead in the final 2 minutes at home against a lower-tier Atlantic Coast Conference foe, coach Mark Turgeon has reason to believe the 74-71 win over Miami on Wednesday night will ultimately be remembered as the moment his team finally began playing to its potential.

Soon after Dez Wells hit the game-winning 3-pointer, Turgeon spoke excitedly about how the Terrapins shared and shot the basketball to reach .500 in league play.

He expects the trend to continue Saturday at Virginia Tech, which begins a stretch of four of five on the road.

Turgeon says, "We're getting there. We're getting better."
