PRINCESS ANNE, Md- Dillon Simon of University of Maryland Eastern Shore received the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's honor of Men's Field Athlete of the week, announced Jan 30.
This was the first time Simon has been awarded this honor, along with his four athlete of the week nominations.
He competed in the shot put and the weight throw in Saturday's Navy Invitational at the Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis. He set the school record for the fourth time in the weight throw this season. Passing by his previous mark with a distance of 19.61 meters. During the shot put, Dillon fell short breaking the record of 18.72 by Kimani Korton in 2007. However, his mark of 18.64 meters broke the Brown Field House record 18.31 meters set in 2012.
Simon has earned six top finishes overall, with three victories in shot put, and three in weight throw. Simon has met the standards for the IC4A, which will hold championships in Boston this March.
The UMES track team is preparing to travel to New York City for the Columbia Meet this Saturday.
