Local Monster Truck Competing on Big Stage

SALISBURY, Md. - This weekend, monster trucks are invading the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center for the No Limits Monster Truck Winter Nationals.  One of the trucks in the competition this year is the "Saigon Shaker," which was built just a few miles away in Delmar, Delaware at the Metal Shop on Route 13.

The Saigon Shaker will be making its first ever appearance at a monster truck show along with its driver, Ryan Disharoon.  Ryan said the truck was built be himself, his father and the crew at the Metal Shop in about two months time.

"You start with some tubing, and some rears, and some ideas.  And you just mix them all together and you get a monster truck," said Ryan Disharoon.

The new truck and driver will be competing against some of the most well known monster trucks in the country at the Civic Center.  Ryan's father, Rick Disharoon, raced monster trucks professionally for seven years with his son Ryan on his pit crew.  Tonight will be a passing of the torch from father to son.

"I have the best son in the world that any father could have.  We fight, we get along, we're great buddies, but to see him to do this is the most incredible thing for me," said Rick Disharoon.

And for more seasoned drivers in the event, they know they will be facing an new stiff challenge in Ryan and the Saigon Shaker.

"With a local guy like that, you have to run a little harder when you're with Big Foot or something because he's got the crowd with him automatically," said monster truck driver, J.R. Adams.

You can catch the Saigon Shaker Friday evening at 7:30 and Saturday at 1:30 and 7:30 at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center.
