Posted:

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Delaware State Police arrested a 20 year old Rehoboth Beach man in connection to the robbery of a cigarette store.

Troopers were called to the DOT Discount Cigarette store on the 19000 block on Coastal Highway just after 6 p.m. On Tuesday. Authorities said two female employees were at the counter when a man entered the store with his face partially covered with a dark mask.

According to police, the man presented the employees with a note demanding cash and implying he was armed with a gun. The employees gave the robber the cash before he ran out of the store heading west towards South Street.

Later that evening, authorities said a trooper on patrol near South Street saw a subject matching a description of the robbery suspect. Troopers arrested Dennis Parkstone without incident.

Parkstone is charged with two counts of robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and other charges. He's being held on $35,000 cash bail.

It would be the next chapter in Maryland's efforts to comply with a Court of Appeals ruling that defendants have a right to legal counsel at every bail hearing. Legislators failed to agree on a solution this past session.
