WILMINGTON, Del. (WBOC/AP)- Delaware State police say a Townsend man has been charged with vehicular homicide in a two-vehicle crash in Townsend.

Twenty-two-year-old Maurice W. Dawkins Jr. was charged last week in the crash that killed 51-year-old Allan A. Cunha of Elkton, Md.

Troopers say Dawkins was driving south on Interstate 495 in the early evening of July 24. Police say when Dawkins' car changed lanes, the rear of his vehicle hit the front of a truck driven by Cunha.

Investigators say the collision caused both vehicles to leave the road and go down an embankment. The truck overturned and hit a tree. Police say Dawkins' car stayed upright.

Cunha was pronounced dead at the scene. Dawkins and a 21-year-old male passenger in his car were not hurt.

Troopers said an investigation showed that Dawkins was driving at a high rate of speed and in an aggressive and negligent manner when the crash occurred.

In addition to second-degree vehicular homicide, Dawkins is also being charged with driving in violation of restrictions on occupational license. He was released on $10,100 unsecured bond.
