Delmarva Power Prepares for Potential Mid-Week Storm

Posted:

NEWARK, Del.– Delmarva Power officials say they are closely monitoring a weather forecast that calls for heavy snow, icing due to freezing rain and coastal flooding which could potentially affect the utility's service territory Wednesday into Thursday.

Officials said the utility, which is the Delmarva region's largest electricity provider, will schedule and adjust its workforce with the timing of the weather and any resulting customer outages. The utility said it will work around the clock to restore any outages that may occur, but customers need to be prepared for the possibility of power outages.

Officials said that in addition to damaging the electrical system, snow and ice may considerably slow crew efforts to reach substations and outage areas to make repairs. Utility crews – or highway crews when available – must first clear snow to gain access. Officials said icy roads make travel impossible, so crews cannot start repair work until roads become safely passable.

Customers are asked to please call in any outages and stay away from any downed wires. To report outages and downed wires, call 1-800-898-8042 (New Castle, Cecil and Harford counties) or 1-800-898-8045 (Kent and Sussex counties and the Eastern Shore of Maryland). Follow the prompts and ask for a call back to confirm that power has been restored. Outages also may be reported through www.delmarva.com or through our mobile app. For natural gas emergencies in New Castle County, call (302) 454-0317.

Delmarva Power is in contact with local emergency management officials.
