Power Companies Prepare for Snow Storm on Delmarva

Posted:

WICOMICO/SUSSEX-Some local power companies were all hands on deck for Wednesday's late snow storm.

Matt Likovich with Delmarva Power said, the preparations include essential tools loaded in the compartments of some the company's biggest trucks.

"Ice and freezing rain can coat the wires, can coat the equipment and it can weigh on the lines," said Likovich, "heavy wet snow can weigh on the lines and we could have problems with trees coming down on the lines."

Likovich said the company also had their customer center ready to answer all calls.

"We will get out there and address the situation as far as safety is concerned," said Likovich, "and the police and fire will come out there and help with traffic control but basically keep your 911 calls for emergencies, your power outage calls should go to Delmarva Power."

Delaware Co-Op in Sussex County was also ready to roll with their trucks locked and loaded.

"We have approximately thirty-five lineman and twenty-three trucks that are ready to go and we have contractors in Delaware who can help us if the storm is real bad," said company spokesman, Jeremy Tucker.

Both companies said that customers on Delmarva come first but if needed they will send crews elsewhere to help others get their lights back on too.

Delmarva Power customers should report outages by calling: 1-800 898-8045.

Delaware Co-Op customers can call, 1-855-332-9090
