FREDERICK, Md. (AP/WBOC)- Mid-Atlantic residents are bracing for a storm that could bring the region its heaviest snowfall in four years.

The National Weather Service says snow accumulation through Thursday could reach 18 inches in Loudon County, Va., and up to 14 in central and western Maryland.

Washington and Baltimore are forecast to get up to 8 inches. Parts of Delaware could get up to 10.

Those would be the highest snowfall numbers since February 2010.

Some of the heaviest snow is forecast for Maryland's Frederick and Carroll counties. Some residents there endured four-day power outages last week from an ice storm.

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley has declared a state of emergency. He says it's going to be "a nasty, wet, icy event."

D.C. officials say vehicles parked on emergency routes will be towed.
