WASHINGTON (AP)- The National Weather Service says the snow storm that buried the Mid-Atlantic region was the ninth biggest in recorded history by one measure.
Meteorologist Heather Sheffield said Friday the storm dropped 13.3 inches of snow at Washington Dulles International Airport. That's the official reading on which the ranking is based.
The weather service says trained spotters reported storm totals of up to 26 inches in northern Baltimore County, Md., but those numbers haven't been officially verified.
The snowfall at Dulles included 11.7 inches on Thursday alone. That broke the 24-hour record for that date of 3 inches set in 1992.
