LEWES, Del. (AP/WBOC)- The mayor of Lewes says he will not seek re-election after leading the city for a decade.

Lewes Mayor James L. Ford III said he will not be a candidate in the municipal election in May.

Ford said he is stepping down because of business and family reasons. According to his biography on the city's website, Ford has been a Lewes resident since 1976 and owns a building contracting business that specializes in historic restoration.

Ford was appointed to the Lewes Planning Commission in 1987, elected to the City Council in 1992, appointed deputy mayor in 1998 and was elected mayor in 2004.
