Maryland Signs Cybersecurity Agreement With NIST

Posted: Updated:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland officials have signed an agreement with the National Institute of Standards and Technology to more clearly define the development of the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence in the state.

Gov. Martin O'Malley, Sen. Barbara Mikulski and Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett joined acting Undersecretary of Commerce Patrick Gallagher at a news conference on Tuesday in Annapolis to announce the agreement.

It's part of a public-private partnership to help boost cybersecurity development in Maryland. The state says 16 companies have agreed to provide hardware, software and expertise to advance the development of cybersecurity technologies.

Plans call for moving a temporary home for the center to a renovated 65,000-square-foot building in Rockville. The building is owned by the Maryland Economic Development Corporation.
