SALISBURY, Md.- A woman with prior shoplifting convictions was sentenced to more than six years in prison Tuesday after being convicted of attempted theft for trying to steal a large-screen television from the Fruitland Walmart.

Sheronda Jennings, 43, of Frankford, Del., was also convicted by a Wicomico County Circuit Court jury of conspiracy to commit theft, possession of cocaine and trespassing. According to Wicomico County State's Attorney Matthew A. Maciarello, the charges against Jennings arose after she attempted to steal a 50-inch television from the Walmart back in July 2012.

Jennings was prosecuted as a repeat offender, Maciarello said. He noted that Jennings had previously been convicted multiple times of shoplifting in Delaware and Maryland. The court ultimately sentenced Jennings to a total of six years and 90 days in the custody of the Division of Corrections.

Maciarello said retailers have formed an alliance in Wicomico County to combat shoplifting and are meeting regularly with investigators and prosecutors.
