Man Sentenced for Traveling to Have Sex With Child

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A Pennsylvania man convicted of traveling to Delaware to have sex with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Forty-year-old Michael J. Barndt of Sellersville, Pa. was also ordered to register as a sex offender at sentencing Tuesday in federal court in Wilmington.

Prosecutors say Brandt, a former cook at a Pennsylvania school who also worked at a summer camp, posted an ad on craigslist.com expressing interest in a teenage fantasy liaison. An undercover investigator responded, pretending to be a 14-year-old girl.

Authorities say Barndt traveled to Concord Mall in Wilmington to meet the girl, and was arrested.
