DOVER, Del.– As the winter storm settles over the First State, Delaware's roads are rapidly becoming covered in snow and ice, according to the state Department of Transportation.

DelDOT said that due to the efforts of more than 400 hundred DelDOT employees, who have been working since midnight, primary roads, such as I-95, and Route 1 remain passable, although they are quickly covered in a thin layer of snow and ice as soon plows pass by.

If the snow stops Monday afternoon, DelDOT said crews could begin plowing the secondary roads later tonight, but for now, the focus remains on salting and plowing the primary roads.

Residents are urged to stay off the roads for the remainder of the day, if possible. DelDOT said that not only will less traffic be safer for motorists, it also allows for crews to more efficiently and safely clear the roads.
