DOVER, Del. (AP)- The latest snowstorm to hit the mid-Atlantic area is likely to cause more headaches for school superintendents in Delaware.

Even before the storm arrived late Sunday, all Delaware school districts had exceeded the additional time built into their calendars to account for bad weather.

Under state law, schools must offer at least 1,060 hours of instructional time for students in grades kindergarten through 11 each year, and at least 1,032 hours for high school seniors.

Superintendents of all New Castle County districts, as well as the Seaford school district, formally asked for waivers of the time requirements last week, which is earlier than normal.  A spokeswoman for the state Department of Education said Monday that officials expect more districts to ask for waivers as well.
