Local Sheriffs at Rally Against Legalizing Marijuana

Posted: Updated:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Local sheriffs attended a rally in Annapolis to voice opposition to proposed legislation to decriminalize marijuana in Maryland, according to the Talbot County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office said sheriffs from the Eastern Shore and local police chiefs attended a rally sponsored by the Maryland Sheriff's Association and its supporters.

The sheriffs are taking a stand against legalizing marijuana in Maryland, as lawmakers continue to discuss the possibility of the drug's legalization.

The sheriff's office said studies and other state's experience who have already legalized marijuana show adverse consequences.

Those considering the action say one benefit to legalizing marijuana is that it could allow law enforcement to focus more on other important public safety concerns in Maryland.
