Va. Company Gets State Agriculture Grant

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe has awarded his administration's first grant as part of a fund aimed at strengthening the state's agriculture and forestry industries.

McAuliffe on Monday awarded the grant from the Governor's Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund to Montague Farms Inc. based in Center Cross.

The more than $14,000 grant is for a business expansion project that has undertaken at the company's Windsor facility in Isle of Wight County.

The family-owned producer and exporter of specialty soybeans plans to invest more than $600,000 to purchase a new state-of-the-art packaging line, soybean testing lab and warehouse facility.

Officials say the investment will allow Montague Farms to access the sprouting soybean markets in Asia.
