FORT MILL, S.C. – Wesley College's men's lacrosse team won its fourth-straight game to open the season, defeating Piedmont College, 13-11, on Thursday afternoon at Nation Ford High School. The Lions fall to 3-4 on the season.
After going down, 1-0, Moss scored the equalizer and Redefer added two more before another Piedmont score, giving Wesley a 3-2 lead after one period. Redefer added two more goals in the second, while Mahaffey and Mike Rakos found the back of the net one time each as the Wolverines went into the half with a 7-3 lead.
The Wolverines then opened up an eight goal lead as Wesley scored four-straight goals to open the second half, with four different players rattling the cage. After Mahaffey and Redefer scored, Patrick Lipari scored just five seconds later off an assist by Jack O'Neill to give Wesley a 10-3 lead, just 25 seconds before a score by John Chenault.
Piedmont scored the final two goals of the third to cut the deficit to 11-5 and the teams traded two goals each to keep the differential at six goals with 7:45 left to play. The Lions gave Wesley a bit of a scare by scoring the next four goals, including cutting the lead to its final total of two goals with 2:03 left to play.
