LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va.– The Washington Redskins announced Tuesday that they have re-signed safety Brandon Meriweather. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Meriweather (5-11, 200) was originally drafted by the New England Patriots in the first round (24th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft. In seven NFL seasons, the two-time Pro Bowler has appeared in 89 career regular season games with 58 starts with the New England Patriots (2007-10), Chicago Bears (2011) and Washington Redskins (2012-13).

For his career, Meriweather has posted 349 tackles (243 solo), 34 passes defensed, 15 interceptions (one returned for touchdown), five forced fumbles, three sacks and two fumbles recovered. Last season, he started all 13 games in which he appeared for Washington, being credited by coaches with 93 tackles (59 solo) while also recording two interceptions, one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Meriweather played collegiately at Miami (Fla.) from 2002-06. He started 21 games at strong safety, six at free safety, three at cornerback and one at nickel back during his career and twice earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team honors (2005, 2006). He holds the Miami career-record for tackles by a defensive back with 293 tackles, and his 182 career solo tackles broke the school's all-time record for safeties previously held by Bennie Blades (155).

Meriweather, 30, attended Apopka H.S., which he led to the Florida Class 6A championship as a senior in 2001. He was born on Jan. 14, 1984.
