MILTON, Del.– Delaware State Police say a Newark man has died as result of a crash involving a car and dump truck.

It happened at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in Milton.

Police said Daniel Murray, 25, was driving southbound on Coastal Highway in the left lane approaching the intersection with Beach Highway. A dump truck was stopped for a red light in the northbound left turn lane waiting to turn westbound on Beach Highway, according to police.

Police said when the signal turned green, the dump truck went into the intersection to turn onto Beach Highway. Troopers said that at the same time, Murray failed to stop for the southbound red light and struck the truck in the right front corner, which caused the car to spin counter-clockwise. The car came to a stop in the eastbound lanes of Beach Highway.

Police said Murray, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the dump truck, Alvin Mast, of Greenwood, was not reported as injured in the accident.
