Salisbury University's Wheatley earns Player of the Week

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Senior goalkeeper Ashton Wheatley earned her second honor of the week, being awarded the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Mid-Atlantic Defensive Player of the Week.

Wheatley recorded her fifth victory of the season in a 10-3 defeat of No. 10 York College of Pennsylvania Saturday at Kinsley Field. The senior turned away 11 shots, one shy of a career high. Her career high is 12 saves against Middlebury College in the 2013 NCAA semifinals.

The senior captain also picked up a game-high four groundballs.

For the season, the Cambridge, Md., native holds a 6.11 goals-against average.

Wheatley and the No. 1 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team take the field this weekend for back-to-back games at Sea Gull Stadium. On Saturday, the Sea Gulls matchup against Southern Virginia University for a 1 p.m. start. On Sunday, SU takes the field for the annual Pink Game against No. 4 Franklin & Marshall College. First draw is set for 1 p.m.
