Cave Neck Rd. in Milton to Close Monday

Posted:

MILTON, Del. - A two-mile stretch of Cave Neck Road connecting Route 1 to Milton will be closed Monday March 24th for DELDOT to remove and replace a crossroad pipe.

The road will be closed until March 26th at 3pm unless weather causes delays. The project was supposed to start last week but was stopped due to the snow storm.

According to DELDOT, residents and businesses will have local access to the road. However, some businesses in the area are worried about losing customers.

Ray Richardson owns The Kitchen restaurant in Paynter's Mill just off route 1 and said in the slower winter months, his business needs all the traffic it can get.

"That's a major road going to Milton, to and from Milton, and people come down to the beach, they go down that road and they stop in here," he said. "If they can't get down the road, they're gonna go down a different road, they're gonna go to a different restaurant."

Mark Rudo on the other hand, bikes up and down Cave Neck Rd. regularly, and is not too concerned.

"Fortunately there's alternatives, it'll take a little longer even going to and from work," he explained. "We'll have to go the other direction, but it adds a few minutes and shouldn't be too bad."

The recommended detour by DELDOT is to take Cave Neck Rd. onto Hudson Road if you're going eastbound and Route 1 to Eagles Crest Rd. if you are going westbound.
