RALEIGH, N.C. and BALTIMORE. – The Hawks were participants in two separate meets this weekend. A portion of the team traveled to the Raleigh Relays while others went to Baltimore for the UMBC Big Dawg Invitational (which was subject to some inclement weather.)
Junior Gayon Evans (Clrendon, Jamaica) qualified for the 100 meter dash finals by finishing first in a field of 157 athletes with a time of 11.56 athletes, then he earned a fourth place finish in the finals at 11.77 seconds.
Two sophomores Shantol Hemley (St. Catherine's, Jamaica) and Taylor Folk (Baltimore, Md.) registered their seasonal best in the 400-meter dash and the 4x400 relay team of Hemley, Evans, freshman Rachel Halmon (Waldorf, Md.) and junior Annis Mars (Brooklyn N.Y.) made a time of 3:47.15 and placed 11th.
In Raleigh, senior Aaron Chatman (Waldorf, Md.) finished fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.67 seconds, and fellow senior Ramone Waite (Kingston, Jamaica) beat his season high with a time of 49.22 seconds.
Senior Codjo Gbedo (New Carrolton, Md.) finished sixth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:00.19 with freshman Sodiq Amusat (Lanham, Md.) finishing seventh at 2:01.81.
The Hawks will now join together as one team once again for another trip to North Carolina, as they look to compete in the Vertklasse Meeting on the campus of High Point University.
