PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Junior track and field athletes Dillon Simon (Pottersville, Dominca) and Gayon Evans (Clarendon, Jamaica) have been named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on April 1st. This is Simon's sixth, and Evans fourth time being named to this honor.
Evans had an impressive performance in the 100 meter dash this past weekend. She qualified for the eight person finals by finishing first in a field of 157 athletes with a time of 11.56 seconds. She followed with an 11.77 second finals performance which placed fourth. She also participated in the 4x400 relay team in earning their best time of the year, finishing 11th with a time of 3:47.15.
Simon finished the Raleigh Relays with two top 10 finished in the field events. In the discus throw he finished fifth with a throw of 53.15 meters, which was his best throw of the season, and just a half-meter short of his school record. In the shot put Simon placed second in a field of 65 athletes with a throw of 17.26 meters.
Both Simon and Evans will travel along with the rest of the Hawks' track squad to High Point, N.C., for the Vertklasse Meeting on April 4th and 5th.
