DOVER, Del.- Delaware State University Senior pitcher Matt McClain (Dover, Del) and Freshman outfielder Ron Farley (Cockeysville, Md) have been honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for their performances last week.
McClain was named MEAC “Pitcher-of-the-Week” after tossing his fourth complete game of the season in the Hornets’ 10-1 win over Coppin State on Apr. 12. He allowed six hits and one unearned run, while striking out a season high eight batters in the contest.
McClain is 5-0 with a 2.25 earned run average in eight appearances this season. He is tops in the MEAC and 16th among all NCAA Division I pitchers in strikeout-to-walk ratio (7.20) and 16th in the nation in walks per nine innings (0.87).
Farley was selected as the MEAC Rookie-of-the-Week after hitting .455 (10-for-22) with six runs batted in and two doubles in five games last week. He had at least two hits in four games last week. For the season, Farley is batting .388 with a home run and 24 RBI. He ranks second on the Hornets in runs batted in and second in doubles (7).
Delaware State (18-11) returns to action on Tuesday at La Salle. Game time is 3 p.m. in Philadelphia.
