SALISBURYMd. — Six Destination Imagination teams from public schools in Wicomico County have earned a trip to the Global Finals in Knoxville for winning performances in the DI State Tournament at the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

A record 27 Wicomico teams participated in the state DI tournament, with 10 teams finishing in the Top 5 and six of them advancing to Global Finals.

Statewide, 600 teams competed in Destination Imagination this year, and 300 competed in the state tournament. Teams spent several months planning and perfecting their Central Challenge solutions.

Now they have just a few weeks to raise thousands of dollars to cover the trip to Global Finals. School leaders have a goal to reach 6 thousand dollars. A countywide casual day for Wicomico County’s DI Global Finals teams will be on April, 25.

WBOC spoke with students from the "Pinehurst Elementary Olympic Improvers."  The Pinehurst Destination Imagination Team is made up of five students who finished second at the State Tournament in early April.

"We are so glad to advance to the finals," said Peyton Bradford. "We really have to think on our feet and come up with cool strategies."

"Destination Imagination is for students of all ages," said team adviser Jodi Foster. "We need to raise money for the trip to provide room and board for DI team members during the competition."

Donations should be made to the respective school, with “DI Team” in the memo line or on the envelope, to:

For Fruitland Intermediate Daydreamerz: Fruitland Intermediate School, 208 W. Main St., Fruitland, Md., 21802;

For North Salisbury Flying Mustache Ponies and North Salisbury Flying Manatees: North Salisbury Elementary, 1213 Emerson Ave., Salisbury MD 21801;

For Pinehurst Elementary Olympic Improvers: Pinehurst Elementary, 520 S. Pinehurst Ave., Salisbury, Md., 21801;

For Salisbury Middle DI-scoverers: Salisbury Middle School, 607 Morris St., Salisbury, Md., 21801.

For funds to be shared among the six Wicomico DI Global teams, note the donation is for the DI teams, and mail to:
