Oxford-Bellevue Ferry Reopens on Bay for 2014

OXFORD, Md. (AP/WBOC) - The ferry between Oxford and Bellevue in Talbot County will begin operating again this year in time for the Easter weekend.

The nation's oldest privately operated ferry service will started its 2014 season on Friday. The ferry was founded in 1683 and will commemorate its 331st birthday in November. The ferry crosses the Tred Avon River, an inlet of the Chesapeake Bay.

Captains Tom and Judy Bixler of Oxford have owned the ferry for the past 13 years. The crew is mostly made up of students and retirees.
