Beau Biden Reshuffles Delaware Political Landscape

Posted: Updated:
DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden's decision not to seek re-election and instead run for governor in 2016 is reshuffling the state's political landscape and altering the usual path to higher office.

The News Journal reports Biden's approach to public office is surprising many in the state. Biden is Vice President Joe Biden's eldest son. Polls show he is the state's most popular and recognizable politician.

Biden is abandoning the tradition of politicians using their platforms to pursue higher office. Instead, he'll run for governor from outside elected office.

Lt. Gov. Matt Denn, who was seen as a potential Democratic candidate for governor, says Biden's announcement led him to consider a run for attorney general. State Prosecutor Kathleen Jennings also says she's considering her options for the attorney general's office.
