BALTIMORE – The Salisbury University Lacrosse team ended its regular season with two wins on Monday, moving the team up to the No. 2 spot in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III coaches' poll and the Lacrosse Magazine rankings.
The Sea Gulls took down Marymount University of the Capital Athletic Conference Wednesday with a score of 15-3. SU then followed up with an 11-9 victory over then-No. 2 ranked Stevenson University Saturday night.
Last week’s victories allowed the Sea Gulls to trade places with Stevenson. When this week’s coach’s poll was released, Salisbury had 379 points while Stevenson held only 342.
Despite the push by Salisbury, Rochester Institute of Technology continued to hold the No. 1 spot with 400 points and all 20 first-place votes. Other schools holding their positions from the previous week included No. 4 Denison University (319 points) and No. 5 Cabrini College (317 points).
On the Lacrosse Magazine rankings, Salisbury jumped from No. 4 to No. 2. RIT remained at the No. 1 spot while former No. 2 Stevenson dropped to a No. 5 ranking. Meanwhile, No. 3 Denison held the same position as the prior week while Washington College moved from the No. 5 spot to No. 4.
The Sea Gulls are currently preparing for a CAC semifinal match this week after earning a first-round bye for the tournament. Salisbury will host the winner of the match between Frostburg State University and St. Mary’s College of Maryland on Saturday.
