One Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash Near Milton

MILTON, Del.-Delaware State Police said a that Milton man was killed in an early Sunday morning crash on Cedar Creek Road.

It happened around 2:25 a.m.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that 28-year-old- Andrew Rottmann was driving a Volkswagen Jetta south on Cedar Creek Road traveling at a high speed.
 
Authorities said the vehicle exited the right (western) edge of the road as Rottmann attempted to negotiate a slight left curve in the roadway in the area of Isaacs Road.

Police said the vehicle reentered the roadway and crossed into the northbound lanes. Rottmann, attempting to regain control, overcorrected and the vehicle began to rotate clockwise while leaving the right side of the roadway.
 
Authorities said the passenger side of the vehicle struck a utility pole, causing the vehicle to abruptly change direction and rotate counterclockwise. It came to rest on the shoulder of the southbound lane.
 
Investigators said Rottmann was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he was properly restrained at the time of the crash.

Cedar Creek Road was closed for approximately three hours as troopers investigated and cleared the crash.
