Delaware Lawmakers Target Electronic Cigarettes

Posted: Updated:
DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware lawmakers have introduced a bill adding electronic cigarettes to the state's indoor smoking ban.

The bill introduced Tuesday revises the Clean Indoor Air Act to prohibit the operation of electronic cigarettes in public places where tobacco smoking is prohibited under current law.

The legislation states that lawmakers believe it is in the public's best interest to protect nonsmokers not just from secondhand tobacco smoke, but from emissions produced by electronic cigarettes as well.

Electronic cigarettes do not contain tobacco but heat a nicotine solution to produce an odorless vapor without the smoke and tar of tobacco.

The bill is scheduled for a committee hearing on Wednesday.
