PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- A tractor-trailer accident closed down parts of Route 13 near Loretto Road in Princess Anne on Friday.
Maryland State Police said it happened just before 3 a.m. Troopers said nobody was injured in the accident, but about 250 gallons of diesel fuel leaked onto the road. The fuel spill contributed to the road closure.
Just before noon, police told WBOC that the passing lanes remain closed in both the north and southbound directions while crews clean up the spill. However, the slow lanes are opened and it may be a few more hours before all lanes are reopened.
Princess Anne Fire Chief Kenny Walsten said emergency crews were using every precaution to make sure the fuel does not spread.
"We're putting sand on the ground to try to dam up the diesel fuel so it doesn't go anywhere," he said. "We have MDE coming from Baltimore to assist us also."
There is no word yet on the cause of the accident.
