INDIANAPOLIS- No. 2 Salisbury University has a first round bye in the road the 2014 Division III Women’s Lacrosse Tournament.
The NCAA set the field Sunday night. Salisbury will host a second-round game against Famingdale State University; TBA. The Sea Gulls (18-1) received an automatic big into the tournament after claiming the Capital Athletic Conference title for the 12th-consecutive year.
Salisbury faced off against No. 13 York College of Pennsylvania in the conference final for the third-straight year, downing the Spartans, 13-6.
With their only loss this season being suffered to the top-ranked State University of New York at Cortland, the Gulls enter the NCAA tournament for the 15th time in program history, 12th in row.
Last year Salisbury claimed the hardware after going a perfect 23-0 and defeating Trinity College in the final match of the season.
Salisbury will meet the Rams (18-1), for the first time in program history, at Sea Gull Stadium for the start of its tournament play. Farmingdale received an automatic bid into the tournament after claiming the Skyline Conference title. The Rams defeated St. Joseph's College, 9-8, in the conference championship.
Four first-round games will be conducted on Wednesday, May 7 with the winners advancing to the second round. Sixteen second-round games will be conducted on Saturday, May 10 with the winners advancing to one of four regional sites May 17-18. Winners of the four regionals will advance to the semifinals and final, which take place May 24 and 25 at Clark Field in Gettysburg, Pa. Gettysburg will serve as host for the championship.
