PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- Junior and Senior Track & Field athletes Dillon Simon and Gayon Evans have been named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on May 6. Simon is being named for the eighth time this season, while Evans is being named for the sixth time.
Both athletes faired well at the MEAC Championships in Greensboro, N.C. this past weekend. Simon was named the Mens Outstanding Field Performer with two first place finishes in the shot put and discus. He also set an event record in both with a 55.85 meter discus toss and an 18.64 meter shot put throw. Simon accounted for 20 of the men’s teams 80 points for the championship meet.
Evans qualified to run in the 100-meter and 200 meter finals, where she impressed with a third place time of 11.54 seconds in the 100m dash and a first place time of 23.08 seconds in the 200m dash. She also contributed to the Lady Hawks’ point total by running the third leg of the 4x400 relay that finished fourth with a time of 3:44.80. In total, Evans directly or assisted in 21 of the Lady Hawks’ 37 total points for the event.
Simon and Evans have both qualified for the IC4A/ECAC tournament, which will commence on May 16thin Princeton, New Jersey.
