PRINCESS ANNE, Md.?- Senior baseball outfielder Stephen Bull (Millsboro, Del.) and senior golfer Mike Veverka (Brunswick, Md.) were named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on May 13.
Both athletes are earning the award for the third time this year. Bull was honored for his hard work at the Harry Awards this past Tuesday as UMES? 2013-14 Male Athlete of the Year. The outfielder then capped off his regular season with a 5-for-14 (.357) with two runs, an RBI and a walk in four games against Delaware State and NJIT in Princess Anne. Bull finished the season with a .340 average with 13 extra base hits, 16 RBIs, 12 stolen bases and 15 walks which helped him achieve an on-base percentage of .391.
Bull and the Hawks baseball team will head to the MEAC tournament this week, which will begin Wednesday with a matchup against Bethune-Cookman. Veverka finished his collegiate career at the PGA Minority Collegiate Championships in Port St. Lucie, Fla., this past weekend, where he led all Hawks as the team finished ninth overall.
In three rounds of play lasting from Friday to Sunday, Mike shot a 229 overall, with a 75 on Friday, a 76 on Saturday and a 78 on Sunday. Over 14 rounds of golf with a total of 1,053 shots, Veverka has accumulated a 75.21 average round, also the highest on the team.
Both athletes are set to graduate this coming Friday, with Bull earning his degree in business administration and Veverka earning his degree in PGA golf management.
